While sunbathing can be a pleasant way to spend an afternoon, and some exposure to the sun is essential for vitamin D production, there are also well known risks: sunburn, reduced elasticity of skin and increased chances of developing skin cancer.

The Green offers professional spray tan treatments to give you a glowing tanned appearance without the need for exposure to harsh UV rays.

Patch test

When you book your appointment, we will give you a patch test. This involves a small amount of the tanning solution placed on the skin behind the ear and in order to verify that you will not develop a reaction.

Before your Spray Tan

For the best tanning result, you should undertake the following steps  before your appointment:

  • Remove any unwanted hair 48 hours prior to your treatment

  • 24 hours before, exfoliate your whole body paying special attention to your elbows and knees and any other dry areas.

  • On the day, do not moisturise or use deodorant and perfume; they will act as a barrier and affect the quality of your tan

We recommend wearing loose dark clothes and flipflops or loose-fitting shoes to your appointment. Please do not wear your favourite underwear as it will come into contact with the tanning solution.

How Spray Tan Works

Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is a colourless sugar and the active ingredient which will be sprayed on to your skin.

Applied using a specialist low pressure spraying machine, the DHA in the solution interacts with the proteins and amino acids in the outer layer of your skin to produce a golden brown colour. The colour you see at the time of your treatment is purely a guide colour for your therapist to see that your skin is evenly covered. In 5-8 hours, your tan will be developed. You will need to shower to reveal your full tan.
